The Butterfly Effect

We all know the Taiker(台客) this title but never make a study of. In this opportunity for presentation I search some data and show for you.

What is Taiker meen ?

TaiKer is a new word in Taiwan,Taiker culture is a kind of sub-culture in the new century, some people say it was similar to very ”Taiwanese”. But everybody look TaiKei’s feeling are different, Most of people are definition of Taiker is vulgar and impolite and think they are not a good men, Maybe have a little rudeness and low level. Therefore the first impression with Taiker were be negative. But I think that is a specially sub-culture in Taiwan, It just a kind of love country’s culture and it was the element we’d like to bring into our society and didn’t mean any bad things.

Taiker’s Origin

We are always heard the TaiKer this word but no one know how it started and what time dose it become to familiar.

Accord to some document I collect three possible origin

1950

Is beginning a part of the Taiwan “Military Dependents Villages” (眷村)it’s means “Taiwan guest” tai is Taiwan ker is guest, it imply the mainlanders is form China and is master. On the other hand the islanders are in Taiwan is guest, In this case some people think that is very belittle to the politics and It has a little degrade to people. Sometime the mainlanders (外省人)call the islanders(本省人) “台客” or”土台客” it’s infer the islanders are very vulgar.

1990

The Taiker develop to indicate some people who behaves and talks or dress are not in faction and they like bright and shine decorations and show off all the time. In this time the TaiKer has become a local type to show their behavior.

2005                                                                 

By way of mass media TVBS channel二代電力公司 it push the taiker to transfer. In this program they invite some college students to discuss the taiker issue, Sometime they also invite some Tai Ker to explain their style and experience themselves.This program bring some echo in that time,Due to the advantage of media communication that the taiker was more popular among in young age of Taiwan.

Until now the Taiker become the special sub-culture and unique life style and trend now.

What is style in the Taiker?

The style strongly reflects on the music, dresses and dances.

1.      Dresses

They always dress the patterned T shirt, white socks on black shoes, blue-and-white slippers and betel nuts.

2.      Dances

They are so enjoying themselves while screaming and dancing especially like the electronic dance music, in dancing pool, taiker always stand out with their vivid visual images.

3.      Music

Through the mass media influence the TakKer music are flourish such as 伍佰.5566.and so on, are acceptable in young generation.             

In conclusion

In fact, Taiker culture has been getting popular these past few years. In my opinion the TaiKer culture is a direct to show themselves even sometime will be noise to others people, Maybe from others’ point of view you are an absolute Taiker but you don’t even know it!

Remember, the spirit and the unique personality of “TaiKer” should be are always being selfish and not caring about what other people would feel. After all, to be a Taiker or not to be one, that is the question.
